What fire ratings are available?

Fire doors are rated by how long the assembly resists fire: 20-minute, 45-minute, 1-hour, 1.5-hour, 2-hour, 3-hour, and 4-hour. The rating you need is set by the wall assembly it’s installed in and your building’s occupancy classification. We review your plans or existing conditions and confirm the correct rating before quoting.

How do fire-rated doors work?

In normal operation, a rolling fire door works like any commercial door. When connected detectors or your alarm system signal a fire, the door releases and closes automatically at a controlled speed, sealing the opening and compartmentalizing the building to slow fire and smoke spread and protect egress routes.

Do fire-rated doors require regular inspections?

Yes. NFPA 80 requires annual inspection and drop testing of every fire door assembly, with written documentation retained for the AHJ. This is not optional and is a common finding on failed inspections. We perform testing, correct deficiencies, and provide the documentation.

Can fire-rated doors integrate with my alarm system?

Yes. Fire doors tie into your building’s fire alarm and detection system through release devices, and can be configured for smoke detector activation, alarm-panel signal, or fusible link release depending on your system and code requirements.

How long does installation take?

Most single fire door installations are completed in one to two days. Custom-sized openings, oversized assemblies, and projects requiring permits or AHJ inspection scheduling take longer. Your written quote includes a firm timeline.
